Irene was an amazing community member and loved by so many. She was part of the group of elders who started Anawim/St. Kateri Center and dedicated several decades of her life to being a Leadership Circle Member. Her dedication and love for St. Kateri was abundant, she attended several Tekakwitha Conferences and made the journey to Rome for the Canonization of Kateri becoming our first Native American Saint. Irene will be missed dearly but will always remain forever in our hearts. See Less

Senior Luncheon Shindig (Picnic)

In partnership with American Indian Health Services with be hosting a Senior Shindig (Picnic) on Thursday June 17th, 2021 at 11:00am to 2:00pm. 4498 W. Foster Ave at the Irene Hernandez Picnic Pavilion. There will be live entertainment, food, games and prizes. AIHS Public Health Nurses Screening will be available. Also, will taking a few moments of time to remember all our community member who we loss during the pandemic, with prayer and honor song. Virtual Indigenous Women's Healing Circle

Virtual Anishinaabemowin - Ojibwe Classes

Please Join Us for a 4 week Virtual Anishinaabemowin, Ojibwe Classes with Caroline Helen Roy-Fuhst. In partnership with CPS - American Indian Education Program. She is well known as Helen Roy, originally from Wikwemikong Unceded Reserve on Manitoulin Island, Canada. She has been teaching the language for over 30 years. Currently resides in Michigan and recently retired from teaching the Ojibwe language at Michigan State University.

Classes will be held on Wednesday Evenings at 6:00PM - 7:30PM on June 9, June 16, June 23, and June 30.

Missing Murdered Indigenous Women Awareness

May 5th is National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. To promote awareness, American Indian Health Service of Chicago, American Indian Center of Chicago, Native American Chamber of Commerce of Illinois, St. Kateri Center and Forest Preserves of Cook County at River Trail Nature Center are sponsoring an event on May 1st that tells the story of those gone missing and the obstacles that the native community has faced historically to prosecute cases and seek justice for these women and their families.
